A flame thrower and torcher of the Jaffna Library with innumerable ancient books and manuscripts were lost by this single act of state run vandalism. Now we want to commemorate this one time womaniser and a corrupt politician. It was said that Mahaweli flowed into his personal pocket.

One of the greatest leaders Sri Lanka ever had. He completed the accelerated Mahaweli development project in five years which doubled the hydroelectricity generation and helped double the paddy production. He obtained the Test status for the country.

Isn’t he not the one involved in the burning of the world famous library in Jaffna, Northern province in Sri Lanka ? I saw the burnt out building while touring Sri Lanka long time ago.

What a snapshot! Such a dramatic contrast – one still alive, while the other remains a tale of the past. Remember how Gamini Dissanayake's luck seemed to take a detour when he made that unexpected comeback to the UNP, shaking things up and nearly clinching the presidency? If only he were still with us, who knows what twists and turns our country's history might have taken! But fear not, the game isn't over yet. It's Ranil's time to keep scripting history. A lucky fellow indeed!

Gamini Dissanayake was the Bandula Gunawardena and Nimal Siripala of his era. The architect of the communal troubles and, another of the S.B. Dissanayake ilk in amassing ill gotten wealth. But Sri Lankan’s love worshipping “Rocks”. It is a cultural trait.
