What a load of rubbish - mostly plastic and other petrochemical based unnecessary products in a country where over 5 MILLION people are malnourished or starving.

True. But our people ready to starve to buy these junk that is imported. Just like having a vehicle in your house. They will have no money to eat but pay for the fuel.

Due to wages and family size of the average SL, these are products most sellable. You must be from the elite class where most quality stuff is affordable and reasonable to purchase. Unfortunately, majority can only afford these things at these prices.

@ Umar Perera—Is anyone forced to buy items from the Shopping Festival? I hope you are using clay pots, wood furnaces, sandalwood and turmeric paste, organic rice, vegetables and fruits, Ayurvedic medicine, etc., for your daily consumption and medicinal needs.

Warren, of course none are force to buy it. However, the masses who have not seen this or have the awareness of self realization buy this crap to imitate what they see on media. Eventually all these plastic and other crap pollute the environment and on a small island like Srilanka can be a real issue.

Looks like cheap imported or contraband items. Cannot see anything local the promotion of which should be the objective of such festivals. Why do we have it at BMICH? Why can't they organise it like in Dubai where the shops participate in the festival with promotional deals. They do not have to move anywhere , they are in the festival at their own location. Dubai Arabs are way too smart than our officials who come up with these ideas. At least learn from them.
