We are very happy about the declaration of Sri Lanka as the best island in the world However we want to ascertain as to how our country was so declared what was the criteria or parameters being used for this declaration. As far as the cleanliness of our beaches are concerned the western beaches are filled with garbage. Sometimes we have noticed that the security forces have been engaged in cleaning our beaches. Even though the local government bodies have made arrangements to collect the garbage certain rude and ignorant people are still dumping garbage to the beaches and some people are setting fire to the garbage heaps consisted of the plastic and other toxic materials. In order to uphold this declaration further the government should immediately implement special programme to keep our beaches clean

Well and truly a good accolade for this beautiful island but the dishonest, corrupt, lethargic, ugly minded individuals and persons who roam around as politicians cast a dark shadow shutting out all that is good.
