Lanka Sathosa and cooperatives will remain open throughout the country although the government is tightening travel measures to tackle the spread of Covid-19 in the country, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.
As businesses in certain cities across the island have taken the call to close their outlets, a measure taken to limit the number of people frequenting the marketplace so the spread of Covid-19 is contained to some extent, Minister Gunawardena said the state entities will remain open.
“It is important for us to keep these state entities open even if we like it or not. People need to be able to purchase groceries and other necessities. People need their basic needs to survive. For that Sathosa and cooperatives will remain open to serve the general public” said the minister.
