Spot On, presented by The Faculty of Brands (TFOB), made its debut with five brands taking the stage to share the thinking, strategy, challenges and outcomes behind some of the country’s most talked about campaigns and brand strategies.
Created in line with TFOB’s vision of bridging the gap between local and global marketing expertise, Spot On was built with the intention of learning from each other as one industry.
Elephant House Ice Cream, Ritzbury Roccoa, Prima Kottu Mee, Celeste and CBL each delivered a presentation that gave the audience the rare opportunity to engage directly with the minds behind the work.
Recently, Bay 7 at Trace Expert City in Colombo was filled to capacity. Four hundred plus brand builders, students and industry leaders gathered for something that had not quite existed in Sri Lanka before, a platform dedicated entirely to real Sri Lankan brand stories, told by the people who built them.
What made the evening particularly significant was not just the content on stage but the philosophy behind the platform itself. The first edition of Spot On was offered entirely free of charge, a deliberate decision by the TFOB team, made possible through the support of sponsors including Watawala Tea, Cycle, Sustagen, HNB Life, Emerging Media, Domino’s, Roza, Sunquick, Elephant House Cream Soda and Imorich.
TFOB Co-Founder and CEO Gayendra Rajapaksha said, “If our country’s stories and our brands’ stories are crafted the right way, they can play a powerful role in uplifting our economy. As brand builders and storytellers, we have a great responsibility to take our economy forward through the stories we tell. In our common cause, we don’t compete with each other. We compete with the rest of the world.”
TFOB Co-Founder and COO Yasith Deshapriya said, “We believed that practical learning, real industry stories and the opportunity to learn from one another should be accessible to as many people as possible. Most often, we hear great brand strategies from all over the world. We admire them, we learn from them and we try to apply those lessons to our own work. But there are amazing brand stories right here in our little island.”
That sentiment sits at the heart of what TFOB is trying to build. TFOB, which also runs workshops, masterclasses, advisory services and the podcast ‘Anybody Can Do Marketing’, positions itself as a platform for practical industry learning. Spot On is its most visible expression of that mission to date.
