EDB opens applications for Manila market exposure programme

Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board (EDB) has invited applications from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in a market exposure and capacity-building programme in the Philippines later this year.

The programme, scheduled to run from October 13 to 19, alongside Manila FAME 2026, will provide selected Sri Lankan businesses with exposure to international buyers, market trends and branding practices at one of Asia’s largest trade exhibitions for home, fashion and lifestyle products.

The initiative targets manufacturers, exporters and potential exporters engaged in sectors including furniture, handicrafts, fashion accessories, home décor, housewares, lifestyle products and sustainable goods.

Sri Lanka is pursuing a strategy of expanding exports beyond its traditional foreign exchange earners, with the policymakers placing greater emphasis on value-added products and SME participation in global markets under the National Export Development Plan 2026-2030.

According to an EDB notice, the participants will gain first-hand exposure to global design trends, merchandising techniques and business networking opportunities while assessing market demand and export potential in the region.

The EDB said the programme is aimed at enhancing the export readiness of SMEs and helping businesses align products and marketing strategies with international market requirements.

The participants will be required to bear the full cost of airfare, accommodation, meals and other travel-related expenses. However, the EDB said it may provide partial assistance towards airfares and internal transport costs for selected SMEs, subject to the availability of funds.

Manila FAME is a key sourcing platform for home, fashion and lifestyle products in Asia and attracts buyers, retailers and designers from international markets.

Applications, which can be obtained from the EDB, will close on July 10.
