Women in construction industry recognised

On the theme ‘Women in Construction’, with the support of the German Grafts Chamber (HWK of Frankfurt – Rhein Maine), the Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka set out to select female participation in the construction industry and bestow upon them recognition for their pioneering role in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Twelve female participants were crowned as Female Construction Stars at Waters Edge recently, at an event graced by Construction Industry Development Authority Chairman Prof. Chandana Jayalath as the chief guest.

The event was also attended by leading personalities in the industry who supported and encouraged their nominees.

The opening remarks were made by Emeritus Professor Chithra Weddikkara, who showed the potential of employment and careers in this industry.

The president of the Chamber of Construction Industry made a formal address to those invited to the event, recognising the female architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, planners and environmental scientists.

Awards were presented to 12 eligible candidates in a gala show and this encouraged others to join this industry and contribute towards nation building.
