The ASPI closed in red as a result of price losses in counters such as Colombo Dockyard, John Keells Holdings and RIL Property with the turnover crossing Rs. 2.3 Bn. A similar behaviour was witnessed in the S&P SL20. High net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in John Keells Holdings, Commercial Bank and Hayleys. Mixed interest was observed in Lanka IOC, Colombo Dockyard and Sampath Bank whilst retail interest was noted in UB Finance Company, LOLC Finance and HVA Foods. Foreign participation in the market activity remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net sellers.
Capital Goods sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to John Keells Holdings, Hayleys and Colombo Dockyard) whilst the sector index lost 1.66%. The share price of John Keells Holdings decreased by Rs 0.20 (1.09%) to close at Rs 18.10. The share price of Hayleys lost Rs 2.25 (1.08%) to close at Rs 205.25. The share price of Colombo Dockyard declined by Rs 6.25 (5.15%) to close at Rs 115.00.
The Banking sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to Commercial Bank) whilst the sector index decreased by 0.37%. The share price of Commercial Bank moved down by Rs 0.25 (0.13%) to close at Rs 191.25.
Lanka IOC was also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Lanka IOC recorded a gain of Rs 0.25 (0.18%) to close at Rs 140.00.
