Indices closed in red as a result of price losses in counters such as Commercial Bank, Sampath Bank and Hatton National Bank with the turnover crossing Rs. 9.5bn.
High net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in Hatton National Bank, ACL Cables and Chevron Lubricants.
Mixed interest was observed in Commercial Bank, Access Engineering and Colombo Dockyard whilst retail interest was noted in Industrial Asphalts, SMB Leasing and SMB Leasing nonvoting.
Foreign participation in the market activity remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net sellers. Capital Goods sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to Access Engineering, ACL Cables and Colombo Dockyard) whilst the sector index lost 5.65%. The share price of Access Engineering lost Rs. 5.80 (7.26%) to close at Rs. 74.10. The share price of ACL Cables moved down by Rs. 5.30 (5.15%) to close at Rs 97.70. The share price of Colombo Dockyard recorded a loss of Rs. 14.25 (9.16%) to close at Rs. 141.25.
The Banking sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to Commercial Bank) whilst the sector index decreased by 4.78%. The share price of Commercial Bank decreased by Rs. 11.50 (5.19%) to close at Rs. 210.00. Softlogic Capital was also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Softlogic Capital declined by Rs. 1.80 (15.25%) to close at Rs. 10.00.
