Tea auction offering crosses 6 mn Kgs this week



Total tea auction offerings crossed the 6.0 M/Kgs mark and totalled a 6.45 M/Kgs this week. The highest quantity on offer since Sale No. 5 of 5 February 2025 (6.5 M/Kgs).  

Overall, a firm to easier trend in prices with the liquoring Small Leaf teas discounted by a higher margin. 

Best Western BOP/BOPF’s – Select high-priced teas declined by Rs. 100 per kg and more, whilst the others declined to a lesser extent. In the Below Best category, BOP’s were firm and up to Rs. 50 per kg easier, whilst the corresponding BOPF’s declined by Rs. 50 per kg and more following quality. 

At the lower end, BOP’s were irregular with some correction in prices observed, whilst the corresponding BOPF’s declined by Rs. 50 per kg and more following quality. Nuwara Eliya BOP’s were mostly unsold and where sold, declined by up to Rs. 200 per kg. Corresponding BOPF’s sold at firm to dearer rates. 

Uda Pussellawa BOP’s were firm and Rs. 20-30 per kg easier, whilst the Uva BOP’s declined by up to Rs. 50 per kg. Corresponding BOPF’s – Uda Pussellawa’s declined by Rs. 50-70 per kg, whilst the Uva’s declined by Rs. 20-40 per kg.   

High Grown CTC – BP1’s had hardly any offerings, whilst the PF1’s declined by up to Rs. 50 per kg. Medium Grown CTC’s were irregular though reasonable steady, whilst the Low Growns were firm and tended dearer for the PF1’s. 

In the Leafy and Semi-Leafy catalogues, Select Best and Best BOP1’s were firm, whilst the balance together with the bolder varieties were irregularly easier. Well-made OP1’s were easier, whilst the balance appreciated.

A few high-priced OP’s were dearer, whilst the balance sold around last levels. Select Best OPA’s declined, whilst the balance was firm. However, teas at the bottom appreciated. PEK/PEK1’s, in general, were firm. 

In the Tippy catalogue, high-priced FBOP’s were easier, whilst the Best together with the Below Best varieties were firm. Teas at the bottom appreciated. However, the bolder varieties declined. FF1’s, in general, were firm.  In the Premium catalogue, a selection of Very Tippy teas were firm, whilst the Best and cleaner Below Best were firm to easier. The balance declined.
