SriLankan Engineering, the maintenance repair overhaul (MRO) arm of SriLankan Airlines, recently carried out a maintenance check on an aircraft belonging to Qatar Airways.
SriLankan Engineering entered into a third party maintenance agreement with Qatar Airways to provide maintenance services for their fleet at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA). Accordingly, the first maintenance certification commenced at MRIA with an Airbus A321 narrowbody aircraft registered under A7-AID last week.
This marks a new beginning for the MRIA station, as it hopes to move forward towards expanding its certification services based on customer requirements. This strategic initiative emerges as a timely opportunity yielding additional foreign revenue to the country and keeping in line with the vision of the Government of Sri Lanka to make MRIA an international aviation hub.
SriLankan Engineering has the aircraft engineering capability in Colombo and Male for Airbus and Boeing aircraft, including A350 and B787. SriLankan Engineering at MRIA was initially established in 2014 and in the year 2019, the facility was strengthened with more highly qualified and dedicated engineers. In addition, the facility has maintained a consistent benchmark in aircraft maintenance, providing the highest quality maintenance services using
state-of-the-art technology.
This is an opportunity for airlines to fly into Sri Lanka, as quality engineering support is available. SriLankan Engineering is considering extending technical support to other airports in Sri Lanka, including Ratmalana, Jaffna and Batticaloa, even though different aircraft types are operated in these airports.
SriLankan Engineering is accredited with several industry certifications of the highest recognised global standards, including the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) to provide major maintenance check capabilities in Sri Lanka.
