Sri Lanka’s e-commerce user penetration to hit 14.1% by 2029- Bamagate

Sri Lanka’s e-commerce sector is on a significant upward trajectory, with online user penetration forecast to expand from 13.3 percent this year to 14.1 percent by 2029, according to an emerging e-commerce player.

The projection was highlighted by e-commerce platform Bamagate.com CEO Douglas Nijanthan, during the launch of the company’s ‘Deals Offer’ campaign in Colombo recently.

He noted that the growing adoption of the internet and smart devices continues to fuel the expansion of online shopping in the nation.

“Approximately 43 percent of the 11 million internet users in Sri Lanka are making online purchases,” Nijanthan stated.

An independent market analysis confirms this growth trend, projecting the national e-commerce market revenue to reach approximately US $ 5.1 billion by 2027, underscoring the substantial opportunity for digital retailers.

To capture a share of this expanding market, Bamagate.com has introduced a series of promotions, including a free gift deal, deal of the day and a buy one get one free offer across categories ranging from electronics and fashion to home goods.

Nijanthan emphasised the strategic value of platform-specific offers in a competitive digital landscape.

“The value of these exclusive deals lies in their limited availability. This exclusivity can translate to significant savings for the savvy shoppers who know where to look,” he said.

He added that Bamagate.com would collaborate with brands to provide exclusive coupon codes and perks like free shipping and extended warranties.

“With Bamagate.com, you have a reliable resource to help you navigate the world of exclusive deals and make the most of your shopping experience,” Nijanthan concluded.
