In a strategic move to bolster its retail arm, Softlogic Holdings PLC has announced the appointment of Terry O’Connor as the new Chief Executive Officer of Glomark, with immediate effect.

The decision comes at a pivotal moment for Sri Lanka’s retail sector, which recently saw the entry of a major new player.

The announcement, made in a letter to business partners on October 23rd, positions O’Connor to lead Glomark through the crucial festive season and beyond.

He brings to the role extensive international retail experience and a proven track record from his current position as CEO of Odel, another key brand within the Softlogic consumer portfolio.

This leadership consolidation signals Softlogic’s intent to sharpen its competitive edge, coming just a week after the diversified conglomerate Hayleys unveiled its ambitious foray into the supermarket segment. The heightened competition is set to redefine the landscape of Sri Lankan retail, pushing established brands to innovate and enhance their value proposition.

In the internal announcement, Softlogic Holdings Chairman Ashok Pathirage  expressed confidence that O’Connor’s leadership will be instrumental in “sharpening Glomark’s value proposition, deepening customer engagement, and enhancing execution excellence.”

The company has articulated a clear ambition for Glomark: to become “the most admired and trusted supermarket brand in Sri Lanka,” by combining freshness, quality, and affordability with a modern shopping experience. The strategy also includes a renewed focus on innovation and strengthening partnerships with local suppliers.

“This next chapter will also see a renewed focus on innovation, local partnerships, and shared success with our valued suppliers,” Pathirage said, underscoring the importance of the supplier network in achieving growth.
