SLASSCOM welcomes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) warmly welcomes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to Sri Lanka, recognising the invaluable role played by the Indian High Commission in fostering stronger ties between Sri Lanka’s knowledge and innovation sector and India’s dynamic ICT ecosystem.

Support during economic challenges

During Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, India extended vital assistance, helping stabilise the country through financial aid, trade facilitation and economic cooperation. This support also extended to the ICT sector, where India facilitated new opportunities for Sri Lankan businesses to engage with India’s thriving tech ecosystem.

Bridging innovation through IIT Pravartak

A key initiative led by the Indian High Commission was the introduction of SLASSCOM to the leadership of IITM Pravartak, the technology innovation hub of IIT Madras. This connection has since evolved into a collaborative partnership, enabling eligible Sri Lankan start-ups to leverage IIT Pravartak’s expertise and incubation facilities. This initiative strengthens cross-border knowledge-sharing and provides Sri Lankan start-ups with a gateway to cutting-edge Indian technology and mentorship.

Strengthening SLASSCOM-NASSCOM relations

SLASSCOM’s deepening relationship with NASSCOM has been another milestone in Indo-Lankan ICT cooperation. With the facilitation of the Indian High Commission, SLASSCOM has engaged in multiple industry dialogues with NASSCOM, paving the way for strategic collaborations, market access and talent development programmes. A significant milestone was SLASSCOM’s successful delegation to NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum (NTLF) 2025, where Sri Lanka was the official Country Partner for Day 2.

The Sri Lanka Day at NTLF was fully funded by SLASSCOM, demonstrating its commitment to positioning Sri Lanka as a key player in the region’s digital economy. This strategic investment provided a platform to showcase the country’s ICT capabilities, facilitate high-level industry engagements and strengthen partnerships in policy advocacy, talent development and business linkages.

Participation in Solar X Startup Challenge

Further strengthening opportunities for Sri Lankan start-ups, the Indian High Commission facilitated Sri Lanka’s participation in the Solar X Startup Challenge, organised by Invest India.

This initiative provides a platform for the start-ups working in renewable energy and sustainability to access mentorship, funding and potential collaborations with Indian and global investors.

Sri Lankan start-ups now have the opportunity to showcase their innovations and benefit from India’s vast network of clean energy stakeholders, reinforcing the growing tech partnership between the two nations.

These initiatives underscore the Indian High Commission’s steadfast commitment to fostering a robust Indo-Lankan technology partnership. As Sri Lanka’s knowledge and innovation sector continues its growth trajectory, the strengthening ties with India will play a crucial role in accelerating innovation, entrepreneurship and regional cooperation.
