SLANA to host 8th AGM tomorrow

The Sri Lanka Association of NVOCC Agents (SLANA) is set to hold its 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) tomorrow (June 27) at Amari Colombo.

The event, commencing at 6:00 p.m., will bring together key figures from the shipping and logistics sectors to discuss pivotal issues and future strategies for the industry.

The AGM will be graced by the presence of Deputy Minister of Ports & Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku as the chief guest.  Established in 2016, SLANA serves as the primary representative body for licensed shipping agents in Sri Lanka who act on behalf of NVOCCs. The association has been instrumental in advocating for the interests of its members and has actively collaborated with the Ministry of Ports and other governmental bodies to shape national policies aimed at elevating the country’s maritime industry.

NVOCCs are a critical component of the logistics chain, owning and operating vast fleets of marine containers. These include standard dry containers, refrigerated units for perishable goods, ISO tanks for liquid cargo, and specialized equipment like flat racks and open tops. They play a significant role in both import/export and regional trade, providing essential capacity and connectivity.

This year’s AGM is anticipated to address key industry challenges and opportunities, continuing the dialogue from previous years. Discussions are likely to revolve around streamlining operations, enhancing efficiency at the port, and fostering a more conducive regulatory environment for NVOCC operators to thrive.
