Sri Lanka and India are looking to further strengthen bilateral ties through a proposed US $ 450 million post-conflict reconstruction package discussed during a high-level meeting between the two countries on Saturday, according to the Finance Ministry.
The discussions took place between Labour Minister and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, where both sides also explored ways to deepen the broader strategic partnership between the neighbouring nations.
According to a statement issued by the Finance, Planning and Economic Development Ministry, the talks focused on the “US $ 450 million post-conflict reconstruction package and further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Sri Lanka”.
The latest discussions come amid increasing economic and development cooperation between India and Sri Lanka, with New Delhi having emerged as one of Colombo’s key bilateral partners in recent years, particularly during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis and recovery efforts.
