PickMe, Sri Lanka’s leading digital mobility platform, is expanding into the entertainment and lifestyle sector with the launch of a QR code-based ticketing system for events.
The feature allows the users to discover, book and access concerts, theatre, cultural festivals and educational events through the PickMe app.
Over the past decade, PickMe has grown from a ride-hailing service into a diversified digital platform, offering mobility across cars, three-wheelers and bikes as well as food and grocery delivery, logistics and parcel services.
The company said the move into events is aimed at further enhancing Sri Lanka’s digital ecosystem.
“Our vision goes beyond mobility. We want to connect people with experiences that enrich their lives. Discovery is fragmented today. With our new events platform, the users can purchase tickets digitally and plan their journey to the venue seamlessly,” PickMe CEO Jiffry Zulfer said.
The QR code ticketing system offers digital convenience for the consumers and real-time sales visibility for the independent event organisers. The users can access tickets instantly, avoid queues and manage rides and event entries on a single platform, while the organisers gain upfront revenue, simplified redemption and post-event audience analytics.
PickMe said the expansion aligns with its goal of boosting Sri Lanka’s “soft power”, making cities more vibrant and attractive to residents, tourists and returning expatriates. The platform’s entry into events also supports the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
With over 10 million registered users, PickMe aims to provide the organisers direct access to large, diverse audiences. The company plans to extend QR ticketing to historic and cultural sites, enabling digital pre-booking for tourists and locals alike.
PickMe Events officially launched on September 1, as the exclusive ticketing partner for Ne-Yo Live in Concert by Brown Boy Presents. The early bird tickets sold out in three minutes, with 25 percent of total tickets sold within 24 hours, setting a record for Sri Lanka.
The company will also manage digital ticketing for the Colombo Book Fair and other major events in the coming months.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, LOLC Group sold part of its stake in Digital Mobility Solutions Lanka and among the buyers were Tundra Fund.
