In a strategic move to further strengthen its leadership team and drive continued innovation in Sri Lanka’s fintech sector, PayMedia (Pvt.) Ltd, a leading digital financial solutions provider, announced the appointment of Dr. Dharmasri Kumaratunge as its new Chairman.
The company has two Directors to its board: Kanishka Weeramunda, the visionary founder of PayMedia and Rohan Muttiah, a renowned figure in banking and technology leadership.
Dr. Kumaratunge, a respected economist and senior figure in the financial services industry, brings a wealth of experience in both regulatory frameworks and strategic governance. His appointment signals a renewed focus on aligning PayMedia’s growth trajectory with global best practices and long-term sustainability.
Dr. Kumaratunge has over 35 years of extensive experience in banking and finance, financial technology, IT and international trade, payment processing, information and communication technology and digital transformation. He held the position of Assistant Governor at the Central Bank and was a Director of the Payments and Settlements Department at the Central Bank from 2016 to 2022. Additionally, he served as Secretary of the Technology Ministry.
Meanwhile, Weeramunda’s pioneering vision laid the foundation for the company’s success in revolutionising digital payment infrastructure in Sri Lanka. Under his leadership, PayMedia introduced several groundbreaking solutions in payment automation and financial inclusion, earning national and international acclaim.
Further, Muttiah is an industry stalwart with decades of experience in banking, IT governance and digital transformation. Muttiah joined the PayMedia board in November 2024 as a Non-Executive/Independent Director. He brings a wealth of experience in digital and digital banking channels. His previous senior roles in governance in the private and public sectors make him well suited to provide oversight on digital payments, cybersecurity, data privacy, AML/CFT, fraud management and artificial intelligence.
Muttiah is a technology visionary spanning 45 years and his attention to detail, pursuit of excellence, international exposure and foresight are valuable additions to PayMedia.
The appointments come at a pivotal time as PayMedia accelerates its regional partnerships such as the Maldives, Bangladesh, Nigeria, etc. and digital onboarding technologies and card issuance solutions across Sri Lanka’s cooperative and banking sectors.
