The National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), one of Sri Lanka’s premier state higher education institutions, has entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Codegen International to expand technological education for children.

The partnership aims to equip young learners with practical and advanced technological knowledge, aligning with broader efforts to integrate digital competencies into education.

The NIBM, boasting more than five decades as a leading higher education provider with global partnerships and industry links, views the collaboration as a significant expansion of its educational mandate beyond tertiary students into younger cohorts.

Speaking at the signing, Dr. D.M.A. Kulasuriya emphasised the importance of the initiative in preparing Sri Lankan children for a rapidly evolving digital economy. He described Codegen as a local leader in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and characterised the MoU as a “unique opportunity” to enhance technology learning pathways for the next generation.

From the Codegen side, Chairman and CEO Dr. Harsha Subasinghe underlined the necessity of integrating new technology into education, asserting that future-focused learning models would be essential for students to remain competitive and adaptive in a tech-driven world. The company has been active in promoting AI and digital skills locally, a focus reflected in industry events where leaders have urged practical adoption of technology across sectors.

NIBM Programme Director Keerthi Kodituwakku said the collaboration would prioritise hands-on learning, ensuring students not only understand theoretical concepts but also gain tangible experience with emerging technologies. The programme is expected to complement the NIBM’s existing technology-focused offerings, which include computing and engineering disciplines supported by international academic affiliations.
