The National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) Sri Lanka officially launched two of the country’s most significant sustainability initiatives, National Cleaner Production Awards 2026 (NCPA 2026) and Fourth International Conference on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy, at a special ceremony held in Colombo recently.
The event brought together the policymakers, industry leaders, sustainability professionals, development partners, academia and representatives from the private sector to reaffirm Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing sustainable industrial development, resource efficiency, cleaner production and circular economy practices.
The event was graced by Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Ministry Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara as the chief guest.
Welcoming the gathering, NCPC Sri Lanka Chairman Gamini Gunasekera emphasised the growing importance of sustainable production and consumption in today’s increasingly competitive global environment. He highlighted the need for industries to enhance productivity while minimising environmental impacts and strengthening resilience against climate-related challenges.
During the event, NCPC Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Samantha Kumarasena presented an overview of the upcoming Fourth International Conference on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy, which will serve as a global platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, policy dialogue and collaboration among experts, industries, researchers and development organisations working towards a circular economy transition.
A briefing on National Cleaner Production Awards 2026 was delivered by Panel of Judges Chairman Prof. Ananda Jayawardena, who outlined the award categories, evaluation criteria and the importance of recognising organisations that demonstrate excellence in cleaner production, environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices.
Addressing the audience, Jayasundara commended the NCPC Sri Lanka for its continued leadership in promoting sustainable industrial development and encouraged greater participation from industries across the country in embracing resource-efficient and environmentally responsible practices.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation of certification awards under two nationally recognised certification schemes operated by the NCPC Sri Lanka.
The launch event further acknowledged the invaluable support of its corporate partners, including Platinum Partner INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd and Exclusive Banking Partner Hatton National Bank PLC, whose commitment to sustainability continues to support the national environmental initiatives.
National Cleaner Production Awards 2026 and the Fourth International Conference on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy are expected to attract wide participation from industries, policymakers, academics, development agencies and sustainability professionals, creating opportunities to showcase best practices, foster innovation and accelerate Sri Lanka’s transition towards a resource-efficient and circular economy.
