Melwa powers WiNE Forum 2026

  • Partners IESL to champion women in engineering

Melwa, one of Sri Lanka’s leading steel manufacturers and engineering solutions providers, partnered with the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) to support WiNE Forum 2026, organised in celebration of the International Women in Engineering Day.

The initiative highlighted the growing contribution of women to Sri Lanka’s engineering profession while promoting greater female participation in engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The forum brought together school students, engineering undergraduates, academics and industry professionals for a day of knowledge sharing, networking and leadership discussions.

The programme featured three dedicated sessions designed to inspire future engineers and strengthen professional collaboration within the industry. The morning sessions focused on school students and university undergraduates, providing exposure to engineering career opportunities and practical insights from experienced professionals.

The evening forum created a platform for women engineers, corporate leaders and industry stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the evolving role of women in shaping the future of engineering.

A highlight of the event was the panel discussion titled ‘Engineering a Resilient Future: Leadership Insights From Women Shaping Tomorrow’. The session featured Tudawe Brothers Executive Director and CEO Romali Tudawe, Prime Group Executive Director Shehana Brahmanage, University of Moratuwa Professor Lidula Widhanagamage Aarachchige and CECB Assistant General Manager Eng. Tharangika Jayasundara.

Moderated by Prof. Niranjanie Ratnayake, the discussion examined leadership, resilience, innovation and the importance of fostering greater diversity across Sri Lanka’s engineering sector.

Melwa said its support for the forum reflects the company’s broader commitment to developing engineering talent and creating opportunities for the next generation of professionals.

The company believes that encouraging greater participation of women in engineering will strengthen innovation, improve industry competitiveness and contribute to sustainable national development.

With a longstanding presence in Sri Lanka’s construction and manufacturing industries, Melwa continues to invest in initiatives that promote technical excellence, professional development and industry collaboration. Through partnerships with professional institutions such as the IESL, the company aims to help build a skilled, inclusive and future-ready engineering workforce capable of supporting the country’s long-term economic and infrastructure development.
