Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability, LB Finance PLC launched a large-scale Coastal Conservation Initiative along the Colpetty to Bambalapitiya shoreline in celebration of World Environment Day 2025.
Held under the theme of ‘Restoring Urban Coastal Ecosystems’, the event commenced on 5th June at 9 a.m.near the Colpetty Railway Station.
This programme was conducted in collaboration with the Clean Sri Lanka Environment Protection Programme, a government-led initiative, and brought together a host of public and private stakeholders to promote ecological restoration and biodiversity.
Among the event’s highlights was the planting of over 6,000 native coastal vegetation saplings, including ‘Scaevola Taccada’ and ‘Scaevola Plumieri’, renowned for their effectiveness in stabilizing sand dunes and mitigating coastal erosion.
Speaking at the event, G.M.R.D. Aponsu, Senior Additional Secretary to the President – Finance and Economic Affairs, emphasized the importance of collaborative approaches in sustainable development. Municipal Councillors Varai Calin also graced the occasion, lending their support to the initiative.
Niroshan Udage, Deputy Managing Director of LB Finance PLC, said, “This initiative reflects our deep-rooted belief in protecting Sri Lanka’s natural heritage. Through long-term action—from urban reforestation to mangrove restoration—we aim to build resilient communities and a greener tomorrow.”
