King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan will bring the spotlight to Sri Lanka this August, as he is to grace the grand opening of City of Dreams Sri Lanka, a luxury integrated resort developed by John Keells Holdings in partnership with Melco Resorts & Entertainment.

Khan, one of India’s most celebrated film icons, will appear as the special guest at the by-invitation-only launch event on August 2, in what is being billed as South Asia’s most glamorous hospitality debut of the year. His presence is expected to elevate the resort’s positioning as a premium lifestyle destination, while offering a symbolic nod to Colombo’s growing ambitions as a regional hub.

John Keells said the development marks a new era for luxury, entertainment and business in Colombo, noting that the resort aims to blend iconic architecture with world-class amenities to deliver an experience “that redefines Sri Lanka’s hospitality sector”.

Located in the heart of the capital, the 4.5-million-square-foot City of Dreams Sri Lanka has been designed by internationally renowned architect Cecil Balmond and features over 800 hotel rooms, upscale retail outlets, wellness sanctuaries, a premium casino operated by Melco and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

The opening also marks the regional debut of Melco’s flagship hotel brand Nuwa and the launch of the resort’s brand campaign “Let’s Go, Let Go”, aimed at positioning the property as a destination for both indulgence and escape.

More than just a leisure destination, the resort is also set to reshape Colombo’s meetings and events landscape, with what the developers say will be the country’s most sophisticated MICE facility, including cantilevered ballrooms accentuated by curated Sri Lankan art. City of Dreams Sri Lanka is among the most ambitious private sector investments in the sector and is expected to draw high-end travellers from across South Asia.
