Indices close on a negative note



Indices closed in red as a result of price losses in counters such as Hatton National Bank, Melstacorp and Commercial Bank with the turnover crossing Rs. 3.2 bn. 

High net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in CIC Holdings, Hatton National Bank and Lanka Milk Foods. 

Mixed interest was observed in ACME Printing & Packaging, Jetwing Symphony and Colombo Dockyard whilst retail interest was noted in Industrial Asphalts, Co-Operative Insurance Company and Mackwoods Energy. 

Foreign participation in the market activity remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net sellers. Materials sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to CIC Holdings and ACME Printing & Packaging) whilst the sector index lost 1.36%. 

The share price of CIC Holdings decreased by Rs. 0.50 (1.61%) to close at Rs. 30.50. The share price of ACME Printing & Packaging lost Rs. 0.20 (3.03%) to close at Rs. 6.40. 

Capital Goods sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to Colombo Dockyard) whilst the sector index decreased by 1.84%. The share price of Colombo Dockyard recorded a loss of Rs. 8.25 (6.01%) to close at Rs. 129.00. Jetwing Symphony Limited and Prime Lands Residencies were also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Jetwing Symphony Limited moved up by Rs. 0.10 (0.69%) to close at Rs. 14.60. The share price of Prime Lands Residencies declined by Rs. 2.70 (5.10%) to close at Rs. 50.20.
