Sri Lanka and India have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Sharing Successful Digital Solutions Implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation.
The MoU was signed by Sri Lanka Digital Economy Ministry Acting Secretary Waruna Sri Dhanapala and Foreign Secretary of India Shri Vikram Misri, representing India’s Electronics and Information Technology Ministry. The signing took place during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka.
This strategic partnership will facilitate the exchange of experiences and technologies related to digital public infrastructure (DPI), particularly focusing on systems like India’s India Stack. India Stack is a comprehensive suite of digital tools designed to enhance the efficient delivery of public services.
Previously, former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasised the potential advantages of adopting the elements of India Stack to expedite Sri Lanka’s digital development. He also highlighted the role of DPI in supporting start-ups and advancing digital governance.
Further solidifying this collaboration, India has committed approximately US $ 5.4 million in grant support for Sri Lanka’s Unique Digital Identity Project, demonstrating a strong commitment to the shared vision of digital advancement.
