The Commercial High Court yesterday issued notices to cleaning chemical company in a trademark infringement case filed by a prominent cleaning chemical brand call ‘CLEANA’ alleging unauthorized use of its registered logo and trade mark.
The plaintiff claims that the defendant company have been marketing products bearing a mark ‘CLEANZA’ to its stylized logo, leading to consumer confusion and dilution of brand identity.
“This is a classic case of passing off and trademark misappropriation,” “We’re seeking immediate injunctive relief to prevent further damage to our client’s market reputation,’ said counsel for the plaintiff.
The Counsel for the Plaintiff suggested that the case could set a precedent for how closely brands may emulate trademarks under Sri Lankan Intellectual Property Law.
Counsel Sandun Senadhipathi with Nuwan Godage appeared for the planitiff company under the instructions of Danuka Lakmal.
The matter was fixed for 18th September 2025.
