The opening of a Commercial Bank of Ceylon Representative Office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), a milestone not just for the bank but for Sri Lanka’s banking sector, was fittingly celebrated recently with the participation of the top management of the bank and dignitaries from Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The formal opening of the Representative Office at The Gate Village 10, Level 7 of the DIFC was done by Commercial Bank Chairman Sharhan Muhseen and the bank’s Managing Director/CEO Sanath Manatunge together with DIFC Authority Chief Executive Officer Arif Amiri.

The opening ceremony was followed by a networking launch event at Shangri-La Dubai, attended by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Designate to the UAE Professor Arusha Cooray and dignitaries from the business community of both countries.

Commercial Bank’s Representative Office in DIFC will serve as a key point of contact for the bank’s growing client base in the region, including key stakeholders in Sri Lanka as well as in Bangladesh and the Maldives, who have operations in the UAE.

Commercial Bank already has the widest international footprint among Sri Lankan banks, with 20 outlets in Bangladesh, a microfinance company in Myanmar and a fully-fledged Tier I bank in the Maldives.
