The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is to offer a 10 percent discount to shipping companies that carry out trans-shipment cargo operations in the Colombo Port headed for Myanmar, a Ports and Shipping Ministry statement said.
The offer is aimed at attracting the increased trans-shipment cargo operations in the East Indian, Bangladeshi and Myanmar regions to the Colombo Port.
During the last 10 years, trans-shipment cargo operations in the East Indian and Bangladeshi regions have seen a significant uptick and, in 2015, the region accounted for 67.8 percent of the total re-export cargo operations.
A feeder service between Colombo and Yangon was also started last year.
The ministry statement said a similar 10 percent discount offered to attract business in the East Indian and Bangladeshi regions in 1995 was a success
