Colombo Dockyard PLC, on March 26, 2026, successfully delivered the 10th and final vessel in the Misje eco bulker newbuilding series.

Colombo Dockyard Managing Director and CEO Thimira S. Godakumbura and Misje Eco Bulk AS of Norway owner and CEO Roald Misje exchanged the delivery protocols, marking the occasion.

The event was graced by High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Anura Karunathilaka, Ports and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Janith Kodithuwakku, Economic Development Deputy Minister Nishantha Jayaweera and Senior Economic Advisor to President Duminda Hulangamuwa.

Misje named the vessel Misje Kandy, inspired by the last capital of the Sri Lankan monarchy, as a tribute to Colombo Dockyard, the Sri Lankan shipbuilder and the local owner’s representative site team.

The ceremonial breaking of the milk pot, in accordance with the Sri Lankan traditions, was done by Colombo Dockyard 10 vessel series Project Manager S.M.S.B. Serasinghe. In accordance with the western traditions, the ceremonial breaking of the champagne bottle was done by the vessel’s God Mother Dileesh Rosemary De Silva.

This vessel and her nine sister ships sail through the European waters; it will stand as a proud symbol of the strength and capability of Sri Lanka’s shipbuilding industry as well as the exceptional skill and craftsmanship of the Sri Lankan workforce.

This project was started way back in March 2020 to build 10 ships. Although the past several years were marked by unprecedented global disruptions: a pandemic, an economic bankruptcy, regional wars, supply chain disruptions, logistical uncertainties and untold hardships, Colombo Dockyard somehow kept on meeting its contractual obligations.  With the delivery of this 10th vessel, Colombo Dockyard has successfully fulfilled its full commitment to the Norwegian owner Misje Eco Bulk AS.

The 89.95-metre DNV-classed eco bulker was conceptualised by Wartsila Ship Design Norway, with the detailed design work carried out by Colombo Dockyard’s skilled in-house design team. In line with the latest trends in sustainable shipping, the vessel is equipped with an advanced energy storage battery system for electric hybrid propulsion, complementing the conventional diesel propulsion system, to enhance the operational performance and reduce environmental impact.

The successful delivery of Misje Kandy reaffirms Colombo Dockyard’s reputation as a reliable shipbuilder of high-quality, eco-friendly vessels for discerning global clients.

As the leader of the shipbuilding industry in Sri Lanka, Colombo Dockyard continuously proves its excellence through securing and successful execution of shipbuilding projects worldwide and is the frontrunner of Sri Lankan industrialisation.

Colombo Dockyard contributes heavily to the national export earnings from the shipbuilding sector, with the much-needed foreign currency to the Sri Lankan economy and plays a leading role in uplifting and driving the maritime development strategy of Sri Lanka.

With a strengthened partnership with Mazagon Docks and a clearly defined strategic direction and growth plan, Colombo Dockyard is optimistic about the future and remains firmly committed to steering the company toward sustainable growth and long-term value creation for the Sri Lankan economy.
