The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will conduct a seminar on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement and its relevance for the Lankan businesses.
The seminar to be held at the CCC on June 27, starting at 2:30 p.m., will see several senior trade officials and experts on the subject lining up to deliver presentations at the event.
Commerce Department Assistant Directors Somasena Mahadiulwewa and Geshan Dissanayake, Institute of Policy Studies Research Officer Suwendrini Jayaratne, Customs Superintendent Sudattha Silva and Joint Apparel Association Forum Secretary General Tuli Cooray will take part as resource persons.
Additionally, a representative of EFC too will form the panel during the panel discussion. CCC CEO Dhara Wijayatilake will conduct the welcome remarks. The WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and its protocol towards Sri Lankan businesses, need for the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, its benefits to local businesses, current initiatives to improve trade facilitation in Sri Lanka and pending issues faced by Sri Lanka businesses, etc., will come under discussion at this seminar.
Trade experts are of the opinion that the implementation of the trade facilitation agreement will bring positive results to small economies such as Sri Lanka to improve their competitiveness in the global market and to attract foreign direct investment through application of simplified border control measures in supporting trade.
