Ceylon Chamber lines up top trade experts to speak on FTAs

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will conduct a seminar titled ‘Free Trade Agreements: What to Look out for and How to Benefit from Them’, in a bid to help create awareness among its business community.


The seminar, which is held under the chamber’s newly launched ‘Trade Intelligence Platform’, will take place on September 19 at the chamber auditorium.


Institute of Policy Studies Executive Director and Agency for International Trade Chairman-designate Dr. Saman Kelegama, Joint Apparel Association Forum Sri Lanka Special Advisor and Agency for International Trade Advisor K.J. Weerasinghe and former United Nations Director Trade and Investment and Advisor to International Trade and Development Strategies Ministry Dr. Ravi Ratnayake will be the resource persons of this seminar.

The seminar will focus on discussing the topics such as: ‘What do trade agreements do and what do they intend to achieve’, ‘What sort of trade barriers do free trade agreements (FTAs) tackle and what are the rules of the game’ and ‘Costs and benefits of bilateral trade agreements vs. unilateral liberalization or multilateral agreements under the World Trade Organisation (WTO)’, etc.
 The seminar, starting at 2:30 p.m., would be chaired by CCC CEO Dhara Wijayatilake.
