Marking the World Earth Day, Barista Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, reflecting the brand’s broader focus on responsible growth, innovation and environmental stewardship.
As the country’s café market leader, with 87 locations across 16 districts, Barista Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its efforts to build a more conscious and future-ready business while delivering the distinctive café experience for which the brand is known.
Positioning sustainability as a core part of the company’s long-term growth strategy, Barista Sri Lanka CEO and Director Dilupa Pathirana said, “Our vision is to make Sri Lanka a place where no one has to settle for less than the world’s best coffee experience. For Barista, delivering on that vision goes far beyond what happens at the point of purchase. It is about shaping an experience that reflects care, innovation and long-term value at every touchpoint. Sustainability is therefore not a separate agenda for us but a strategic priority that influences how we grow, how we innovate and how we create a stronger future for the communities we serve.”
In its 2025/26 financial year, Barista Sri Lanka recorded several notable sustainability milestones across its operations. Among the most significant was the saving of 30 tonnes of plastic through the use of biodegradable takeout cups, a shift that reflects the brand’s effort to reduce dependence on conventional single-use packaging. The company also saved a further 2.7 tonnes of plastic within the year by replacing plastic water bottles with glass bottles, marking another practical step toward more sustainable material choices across its outlets.
Further strengthening its environmental contribution, Barista Sri Lanka has also supported reforestation efforts through the planting of 1,200 trees in the Knuckles Range. As these trees mature, they are projected to release 17.2 million pounds of oxygen, underlining the long-term value of the initiative and its potential contribution to a healthier natural environment.
In line with this commitment, Barista Sri Lanka also introduced a new merchandise range designed to encourage more conscious everyday living. The collection includes reusable tumblers and ceramic mugs, tote bags, notebooks made from wasted coffee grounds, plantable pencils and coffee coasters developed using coffee ground-based material. By transforming by-products into practical lifestyle items, the range reflects the brand’s continued focus on circular thinking and more responsible material use.
The collection extends Barista Sri Lanka’s sustainability journey beyond its cafés, offering the customers simple and meaningful ways to make more mindful choices in their daily lives. Blending functionality with purpose, the new range reflects the brand’s belief that sustainability can be made accessible through products that are relevant, useful and thoughtfully designed.
As Barista Sri Lanka continues to grow across the island, the World Earth Day serves as a timely reminder of the role the businesses can play in building a more sustainable future. Through responsible practices and purposeful innovation, the brand remains committed to creating a café experience shaped not only by lifestyle and connection but also by greater care for people and the planet.
