Special Assignments Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama left for China and Thailand on August 22, leading an official delegation on a study tour of Chinese-built industrial parks.
The 14 other members of the delegation are senior officials including the District Secretaries of Hambantota, Matara, Moneragala, other district and divisional level officials of these districts and officials representing the Development Strategies and International Trade Ministry, Megapolis and Western Development Ministry, Board of Investment (BOI), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWS&DB) and Southern Development Authority.
This study tour, which is taking place on the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, is a sequel to the inspection tour recently undertaken in Hambantota by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama and Amunugama together with the Chinese ambassador, on the proposed mega industrial park and other proposed Chinese investments in the South.
The study team will visit Chongquin in China and the Rayong Industrial Park in Thailand. They will seek to learn from the Chinese experience in the construction, management and comprehensive development of industrial parks. Amunugama and the officials are expected to return to Sri Lanka on August 28.
