Officials from Amber Adventure, Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Center and China Machine-Building International Corporation after the agreement signing. Dinesh Weerakkody represented the BOI
Amber Adventure and Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Center have signed an agreement with the Board of Investment (BOI) to invest US$ 4.5 million in establishing the country’s first cable car project.
The technical and product expertise for the project will be provided by China Machine-Building International Corporation, a Fortune 500 company.
The company will offer comprehensive integrated solutions for cable cars, including 8 and 6-seat options, closed and weatherproof designs, panoramic views, window-opening style, and automatic door opening and closing functions. Additionally, it boasts a large transportation capacity, accommodating approximately 400 people per hour.
Situated in the country’s central highlands, the cable car project will be located at Ambuluwawa, a biodiversity complex and Sri Lanka’s first multi-religious sanctuary.
The cable car rides will cover a total length of 1.5 kilometers, with three stations providing exit and entry facilities. The cable car pathway is strategically designed through the biodiversity center’s forest range.
Ambuluwawa Trigonometrical Station in Gampola features a large winding tower resembling a stylised Buddhist stupa, a Hindu Kovil, a mosque, and a Christian Church within its 470-acre area.
The area is rich in biodiversity, serving as a sanctuary for 29 endemic species found in the Ambuluwawa Mountain eco system.
