Mr former President - You did a amazing job by eradicating the terror in SL and made lots of new faces to the look of Sri Lanka which is great but on the otherside of the midnight as they call it, it was corruption, thuggery and power hungry people that you had created or trusted.... and that paved away to dig your own down fall.... hope and pray the new President elect with the combination of brain power will uplift the image and respect of Sri Lanka around the world.... Thank you appreciate if DM could publish this please..

    sanchay Friday, 09 January 2015 11:39 AM

The immediate and right thing would be to abolish the executive presidency to avoid such mishapes in governance in the future. Hope our new leaders would think of it.

suha cassim Friday, 09 January 2015 01:09 PM

    absolutely:(

    Nel Friday, 09 January 2015 01:09 PM

you can never say that. We should expect to have a better development, better democracy and better governance that rest pests the judicial system

    Achintha Friday, 09 January 2015 01:10 PM

Dear Sir,You are a hero unparalleled. You freed the country from terrorism. We live in peace because of you. You will be remembered by generations. Later part of your ruling period you dropped out of favour in many hearts as there was wide spread corruption. However, you are my hero and you are respected for your leadership qualities.

    DRJ Friday, 09 January 2015 11:46 AM

MR is one of the greatest leader we ever had in this country, he is very strong and charismatic leader with the back bone. I thankful to him from bottom of my heart for the service he stretched to the country, but he made major mistakes by taking control/ getting involved with the judiciary, amending the constitution for the purpose of getting in to the presidential seat for the third time and major corruption scandals, its obvious that every Politian make money when they have the power and we have no problem with that, but he should have done it with self-control, when you go out of control, this is what happen to the leaders, this is the power of nature, nobody can challenge that power with astrology or any other unexplained activities, also its important to understand that the minority people also live in this country and you should look after their legitimate aspirations also, whether we like it or not, those minorities also will live in this country and we cannot get rid-off them entirely, I wont say that we should divide the country in to pieces and share among the nationalities, but as majority nation leader of the country, MR should have look after the legitimate concerns of those minority people also, if he did that during last 4 years, this election result would have been change completely, he bet on the wrong horse- Mr. Douglas devananda, anyway Im thankful to MR with no second thoughts and I will be respecting to the fellow even if he get caught with corruption issues later on, because he did something for the country, my dear future presidents, please learn a lesson from this situation and try to behave as respected person during your time period in the first position, one day you will be kick out by the people if you do things against them!!!!!! I mean all the nationalities including the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others

    rambuttan Friday, 09 January 2015 11:47 AM

Where is the Govt spokesman, having my face?

    Nirpakshika Friday, 09 January 2015 11:48 AM

My dear president MR You did very great job by ending war and attempt to develop the country. But You have unable to do prevention of narcotics,Reduce ministers of the parliament and executive presidency.if you did those and establish peace you are the president today. but you fail to do so. any way thank you very much for you for your great job.I wish you healthy and happy future.Dear Maithree,we hope that you will begin from the place where MR stopsif you do further you will success future. But if you fail to do so, you also have fate of MR. we wish you congratulate for youmany thanks for both of youGood luck to youGood luck to country.

old citizen Friday, 09 January 2015 11:15 PM

You are simply ,good, bad and the ugly.

    ravi Friday, 09 January 2015 09:00 PM

we seem to be confused of the definition of a great leader. A great leader is a one who take the lead in doing what is in the best interest in the common good of those who he or she represent through self sacrifice. I admit MR for ending the war but thats it. Every thing thereafter was selfish. via DM Android App

    lilan Friday, 09 January 2015 11:51 AM

A true and committed leader. A statesman par excellence ! Thank you for ushering peace to this Nation and for ensuring a smooth transition of power in this instance !We are all proud of you

    Yahapalanaya Friday, 09 January 2015 11:55 AM

I hope the leaders who will take the leadership of the country take this as a lesson. MR did a great job until he destroyed the murderous LTTE.After that he only concentrated on perpetuating his rule and building his dynasty. The introduction of the 18th amendmant, the impeachment of the chief justice, tolerating extremists such as the bodubalasena and maltreatment of the minorities were major mistakes made by him.

    zombie Friday, 09 January 2015 11:57 AM

    congrats for our new president

    pkk Friday, 09 January 2015 11:59 AM

your a great leader. Thank you for things that you have done to our motherland.

    Wasantha Friday, 09 January 2015 12:02 PM

Hats off to MR for conducting a peaceful election. It is not MR who lost, but rather his team who aided by nepotism turned the country into their personal backyard by ruthlessly profiteering, racketeering and intimidation, whilst the common citizen slid further into abject poverty.

    KaluSudha Friday, 09 January 2015 12:03 PM

    RanjithT Friday, 09 January 2015 12:04 PM

You did the right thing. Your service in eradicating Tamil terrorism is appreciated but your downfall was saturation of power nepotism and destroying you to opponents. What you did to Gen. Fonseka was wrong. via DM Android App

Thanks u sir...thats the way to happend. New political culture. Wish MS for sucessful future.

    abr Friday, 09 January 2015 12:10 PM

M.R. you did a great job and eradicated the LTTE of course there were others too like the general who helped you whom you humiliated. Soon after winning the second term you had this country in your palm but your narrow politics and recruiting wrong people plus giving priority to family members have cost you the election. Learn from your mistakes you still have time. Learn a lot from Ranil. After all he is the nephew of the grand old fox J.R.

    Nishantha Friday, 09 January 2015 11:01 AM

Great ! We salute you Sir . Hope wonder full future for this country with this great start

    mahsoor Friday, 09 January 2015 12:11 PM

You are a great leader MR but you dug your own grave.

    Citizen Friday, 09 January 2015 09:53 AM

A great President who will be long remembered in Sri Lankan history more than any other.

Ajith Hopitigala. Friday, 09 January 2015 11:03 AM

At next election the Rajapaksas will cite leaving out temple trees as an example of his decency. We saw how indecent he was in his election campaign . I have completely lost confidence with Mahinda. I suspect his every movement.
