The High Commission of India in Colombo today rejected a statement made by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne that there were three LTTE camps operating at secret locations in Tamil Nadu.

Authoritative sources in the High Commission told the Daily Mirror that a formal response would be communicated to the Sri Lankan government by the External Affairs Ministry of India in this regard.

The Prime Minster, delivering the opening speech of the emergency debate in the House on Wednesday, said LTTE cadres were being trained at one such centre to target leading Indian politicians. He attributed this information to intelligence reports.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe countered the Prime Minister saying there could not be any element of truth in this statement. Mr. Wickremesinghe said had there been any such issue, it should have been taken up by the leaders of the two countries.

“As far as we know, there have been no such talks between the leaders of the two countries,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)

Is that why the prime minister has retracted his statement and claims that he saw an article in a local newspaper to this effect.

Our P.M. is talking nonsense. He do not know what he is talking. If there are LTTE camps in India, then he should have discussed this with the Prez and informed India.

The LTTE gets resurrected every time a vote for the extension of the draconian emergency law is taken up in parliament. You need the emergency laws to arrest, torture and detain political opponents without having to produce them in front of a court of law.

he hehe.. the usual story goes in and out.

when emergency debate is around the corner, the govt always say that there's a threat to security by LTTE. but thereafter they keep on saying that the war is over, people are free to go anywhere.

sadly, our people are so stupid to believe all these

If Indian comment is wrong; in time to come they will re-reap the “benefits” as they got “hands full” before.
