Violence against women must be stamped out in Sri Lanka. But violence against women in Western Countries is completely in a different level to what we have in Asia except in India. News medias in Sri Lanka and in other Asian countries for some unknown reason don’t report on the horrendous daily violent crime against women in Britain, Europe , North America, and Australia. Try to Google to get the shocking statistic of murders and rapes in the Western Countries.

That is because violence against women in those countries will be reported and dealt with by the police. Most women in countries like Sri Lanka and India do not dare to report this. And if they do, what is the point? No actions will be taken. In Western countries women are taken seriously and will not get harrassed even more by the police.

I agree with H.D .The only difference is the rule of law applies equally to all, unlike here where is a person of influence can literally get away with murder.

Reply to H D : dream on. Roisin is right. In Asia the violence against women is more hidden. Women are scared to go to the police. Also the police do not report all the cases. So the actual statics derogate.
