The Elections Commission will be summoned for a meeting to discuss the matters with regard to the uncertainty of the commission about holding the Local Government election, Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said today.
He told Parliament that the Elections Commission had not been able to come to a conclusion on holding the LG polls where the discussion had ended with looming uncertainty.
"I hope to call the Elections Commission for a meeting soon about the uncertainty of the Commission regarding the LG polls," he said responding to questions of the opposition.
The Prime Minister said the opposition and the Elections Commission had filed several cases in the Supreme Court regarding the LG polls and added that the government would respect the court decisions and act accordingly.
When asked about allocating funds to the LG polls, he said the government has several priorities to meet in the coming days where two salaries of government workers and pensions have to be paid before the New Year. (Ajith Siriwardana)

PM's action is as if the EC is at fault in not holding the Elections ?
Bring court case against EC at least Friday, 24 March 2023 09:44 PM
The EC is announcing dates for elections while even the number of members for LG councils is being halved. EC should have ensured they have funds in hand before just rushing for LG election. Now they have wasted so much money with pointless activity. Individuals can eventually take court action against EC leadership for announcing dates for LG polls without having funds in hand. Even the Supreme Court should have court action against it for asking for money when there is no money available for LG pools. That must be wrong or illegal. New laws might be needed to draft to make sure SC does bankrupt our nation with its demands.

Unless you are a completely insane moron, it is as clear as day that all these intermittent quips and comments are cheap ploys to delay and digress from the subject. President , PM or any buffoon in govt have no intention of holding any election, as the verdict therein will be total rejection of themselves.

This fellow Dinesh is the best pimp one can have in political party. During his whole political life, never did anything for country other than doing pimpy work and statements like this.

Can the PM merely summoning the EC bring any changes to the course decided by the President.
