Wanindu Hasaranga is on the verge of becoming the first bowler in the history of ODI cricket to take four consecutive five-wicket hauls as Sri Lanka look to secure the top spot of Group B against Scotland in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

The Lankan spin wizard has been in the form of his life capturing 16 wickets in Sri Lanka's first three matches of the qualifiers including three five wickets hauls (UAE 6/24, Oman 5/14 & Ireland 5/79) which saw him equalling former Pakistan quick Waqar Younis who had achieved the same feat nearly 33 years ago (New Zealand 5/11, New Zealand 5/16, West Indies 5/52).

On Tuesday however, the Lankan leg spinner could make history by becoming the first to take four five wicket hauls in consecutive ODIs. (HA)

What is more important preform in the real world cup, not with these associated teams

    Deva Monday, 26 June 2023 02:15 PM

Wonder what Waqar would have done if the opponents were UAE, Oman and Ireland.

    Jayantha Monday, 26 June 2023 02:18 PM

He may find it tough against stronger teams. Even with Ireland he was expensive. Hope he finds a way to tackle stronger teams.

Don't count the chicken before they hatch. These journalists report these things as if SL has won the World Cup. If SL were so good, they wouldn't be here playing qualifying matches would they? Just play the games with humility. Why so much hype for nothing. In super sixes, if SL is going to be arrogant, they wouldn't make the World Cup. They should be good against better opposition, not with little associates.

R U serious to make this as news? I agree with Deva and Jayantha. Individual record hunts and self greed in 'team sports' are what is out doing our Srilankan teams in all sports. Don't even compare these guys to the former greats. They are worlds apart. It's dishonor to the greats. This guy is making records against 2nd/3rd or below stage teams. Even if he does achieve it should not be considered as these are not top cricket nations.

Waqar Younis created the records playing against recognised International Teams and not against Apprentices !

Let's not compare Wanindu with Waqar. Wanindu is of the T20 era. Waqar is from the 90s and 2000s. Records apart. We Lankans have gone to Zimbabwe to get to India in October - November but for that we have to pass the test. Hence, let's not make hooos and haaas. Positive approach is the key for each match we play. The Super Six or should I say the second term test is going to be more testing than the first term test. The Super Six will see Zimbabwe, West Indies and Netherlands play with us, Oman and Scotland. All the very best to Sri Lanka and Wanindu.
