Cabinet approval has been received to reduce the price of a 50 kg bag of urea fertilizer to Rs.9,000 from June 15, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
He said the Cabinet had recommended that the decision to reduce the price of urea fertilizer should be decided upon by the pricing committee appointed for the purpose.
He said the price of a 50 kg bag of urea fertilizer in the market is Rs.10,000.
The fertilizer shipment which had arrived at the Colombo port is now being unloaded. The unloading was hindered last night due to the rain.
The transportation of the fertilizer will begin from tonight. The lorries carrying urea fertilizer will be sent to all districts including Polonnaruwa. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
