The Government is pondering certain actions to be taken against unvaccinated people in the future, to ensure the safety of those who have been administered the jabs.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told a news briefing held at the Health Ministry yesterday that certain European countries had already introduced coercive measures against unvaccinated people like restricting entry to public places.

“Everyone has the right to take decisions on his or her own life. However, we cannot let anyone put someone in danger by not taking the COVID vaccine,” the Minister said.

“Therefore, we may be compelled to implement certain actions against unvaccinated people in future,” he added.

The Government earlier decided to make vaccination cards mandatory from September 15, 2021.

Accordingly, it was announced that people over 30 years of age should carry their vaccination cards when visiting public places from September 15.

However, the move was not implemented as the government could not complete the vaccination drive as expected due to the delay in receiveing adequate vaccines. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

First prove vaccines are safe to take and effective against any covid variant. then make those laws. Otherwise we are in for legal trouble! Scientifically there are compelling evidence that these vaccines are not 100% safe.

"...to ensure the safety of those who have been administered the jabs." Does this mean that even if a person is vaccinated, he can still get the virus from an unvaccinated person? Then what's the point of getting vaccinated in the first place? How about those who are unable to get vaccinated due to underlying health reasons? This nonsense has to stop.

    KM Wednesday, 27 October 2021 10:07 AM

How can a vaccinated person be in danger from someone not vaccinated?!?!. Isn't the point of the vaccine to protect againt covid?

It's a good move as far as it's fairly implemented

    Tyron Wednesday, 27 October 2021 10:12 AM

This is gonna be a stupid decision if it is executed because no one can force anyone to get vaccinated

If the vaccine protects you why worry about the unvaccinated? Wish we had at least one Medical Professional with common sense.

This government has too many cooks to start with. stupidity to the highest level. why don't all who got vaccinated go live in China

Ethical issues (if any aside), we have heard on news some who have forged vaccine cards. How will this work?

    Roshanaly Wednesday, 27 October 2021 11:58 AM

Already forged vaccination are issued for a price.

People should be given a choice of vaccine. Now ONLY selected people can get special brands. For overseas future travel no way to get the country approved brand even by paying for it officially.

Don't be so stubborn. Get yourself vaccinated. In Europe everything is almost back to normal. Only people with corona who are not vaccinated are in the ICU's.

    Dee Wednesday, 27 October 2021 01:22 PM

They may not be able to stop unvaccinated from going in public. But yes! Institutions can make it mandatory. They should! But. For those who are having 'underlying' issues for not being vaccinated, they should be allowed to enter hospital to sort out their 'underlying' issues! Otherwise they can stay at home!

This country rely too much on papers Use a vaccine digital certificate
