The leaders of the United National Party (UNP) and its alliance partners have agreed to work out a criterion for the selection of their presidential candidate, Daily Mirror learns.
There was a special meeting attended by its leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Minister Sajith Premadasa, Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Rauff Hakeem, Mano Ganeshan, Navin Dissanayake and Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
According to a minister who attended it, there is agreement on most of the disputed areas as far as the formation of the National Democratic Front (NDF) is concerned. (Kelum Bandara)

Criteria is to take a vote of MP's and then UNP members as done in UK. Democratic way if the party respect democracy.

Criterion should first be announced by the election commissioner for (a) all who contest. (b) those to hold ministerial positions (c) for a PM and (d) for the post of President. To me it should be (a) A level (b) Graduate in allied field (c)
