A police sergeant attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) and one of his relatives were killed when the car they were travelling in slammed against a lorry at Kadawathgama in Kadugannawa on the Kandy-Colombo Main Road yesterday.
Police said the accident took place when the driver of the car had lost control of the vehicle and crashed with the lorry coming from the opposite direction.
The 51-year old MSD personnel and his 82-year-old relative injured in the accident were admitted to the Kadugannawa and Peradeniya Hospitals where they succumbed to their injuries.
It was revealed that the deceased sargeant attached to a Buddhist monk MP's security detail, was on leave and was on the way to attend a personal matter when the accident occurred.
Investigations revealed that the accident took place due to recklessness of the driver.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
