Two incl. Russian woman die in train-three wheeler crash

Two persons including a Russian woman died after a three-wheeler crashed against an express train at Dalawella in Habaraduwa this morning.

Police said the three-wheeler traveling through Maharamba railway crossing crashed with the Beliatta-Vavuniya express train.

The driver of the three wheeler and a Russian passenger on board the three wheeler died on the spot.

Police said although signal lights at the crossing were not operating at the time of the accident, a board was placed cautioning the motorists who are driving through the level crossing. (DSB and D.G. Sugathapala)

There was warning sign but these careless drivers,all you have to do is just slow it down and have a look, there are so many accidents which can be avoidable, just overtaking on the bends taking the lane of on coming lane ,then heads on coalition

All railway crossings are both side covered wit tress and buidings, you have to go to the middle of the rail road to check weather train is coming or not... it will be too late some time, checking both side not possible while driving. Why brain is not working in the railway departments...it is being run by a Mathananmuththa ?

Much sympathies. By the way how reasonable for the railway department just to keep a notice informing that signal is not working?. How is a driver of a moving vehicle supposed to notice that? This is a Boardlight murder. whoever did this should be criminally prosecuted.

A three wheel driver who frequently crosses the track won't be inclined to see the Boards always. Nothing should obstruct the visibility of an oncoming train to a vehicle or a pedestrian crossing.

Well said in a simple sentence. Just about a quarter of a century ago there were no three wheelers in SL. Successive govts., implemented policies to deny proper education. Consequently three wheeers emerged as a profession; as you said for uneducated. Govt., is also vey happy as long as they can flag them as EMPLOYED and show a favourable national employment statistics. Frankly many of them strugles to earn a decent living. Lack of quality education helps the politicians and clergy to easily brain wash this population. See the state of SL today.

There so many Accident if every accident is taken to account and corrected action taken The board was placed cautioning looks like a newspaper cannot be read in night a day night reflector board to be fixed some meter away to make the driver alerted as done hill country road when there is an u bend the as for watchful many reflector are placed.
