Two in every five Sri Lankan women are subjected to sexual harassment as per research findings, State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe told Parliament today.
The State Minister therefore called for reforms to be set up to address this situation.
“There is no proper environment for the women who have been sexually harassed to lodge their complaints with the police. Everyone in the police gather around when a woman comes to a station to complain about harassment. It has been found that at least 13 women constables are needed in every police station to ensure confidentiality,” the State Minister said.
“A woman who was sexually harassed at the age of 15 came to meet me recently and wanted me to help to end her court case so that she can get married. This is the sorry situation with women in this country,” she added.
The State Minister confirmed that a cabinet paper has been submitted to ban women who have children under the age of two from going abroad for employment. (Yohan Perera)

Every institution must have a complaint box for women to make their respective complaint in the form of letter under the supervision of the nearest police station. This will bring to light the harresment of women.

Then how will you stop the women who put false petions, revenging cases and politically motivated complaints. Don't fell from boiling pot into frying pan. Just find ways to eliminate excess sexisim which linked to sexual abuses directly. You may even complain about sexist cinema, media etc..including the sexual dys function banners in cigarette packs. Drugs may be one of other reasons.

Actually, the Policemen are waiting for such complaints and target the women for further sexual favors to assist in the case. A Sri Lankan Policemen is simply a monkey laced with a Uniform and weapon and given full authority and impunity by the State.

Idiot Sri Lankan politicians can’t think outside the box, what we have is a police force started by the British, where education and family background never allowed to play any part. We have to create a new police force of cultured university educated men and women from good families holding the police job for not more than ten years. No tanks and No promotions.

Tell your party leaders to enact stringent laws to punish offenders and educate the population about punishment. Create job opportunities for people so that they will not go overseas for jobs. What can they do if there is job available locally. Whatever you say on any situation will come back to bite you as the legislators. Better shut your mouths
