The travel restrictions may have to be extended further if the existing restrictions are not properly enforced, Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) President Dr. Padma Gunaratne said today.
She told media that it was baffling whether the current restrictions are properly enforced, as public movement is frequently seen in the society.
“We can’t take this for granted. The travel restriction should be tightened and monitored effectively that unnecessary movements are curtailed,” she said.
“If the prevailing restrictions are lifted, all of a sudden, the COVID-19 cases could spike in great numbers,” she stressed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Gunaratne also said Sri Lanka is not out of the woods as yet, as the risk remains to be still active.
“In a situation where 2000 plus positive cases are reported daily, we can’t say the country is out of the danger,” she underlined.
“Henceforth, we all have to make our utmost contribution to mark an end to the pandemic in the country,” she pointed out. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Only way to slow this down is vaccination. May be you can suggest to Hon politicians to postpone, luxury vehicles, digital parks, highways, beautification of 100 Lankan cities, etc. and bring some more vaccines quickly to we the paupers of Lanka.

Why don’t these pin padi types shut up and wait. Either you have to fully kill the economy and shut down everything till the end of the year or vaccinate 50% of the population by the end of the year Time to end this damp squib lockdown nonsense without ruining the economy further

What is this lockdown? All the travel restrictions are for old men and women retiring at home. Vendors are freely travelling and may carry covid virus. The government wants to eat the cake and keep the cake.

yes, this travel restriction is a farce and is not a good response to Covid spread. Although, a curfew will have its downside effects, it will stop the spread of covid for some time. This is travel restriction does not stop the spread nor has any positive impact to economy. It is a wasteful exercise.

All salaried people and government employees would welcome travel restrictions because they will never go hungry since they get their income fully assured. They do not work at all; still they get paid during the pandemic. But self-employed people are severely affected by the lock down. You should enforce strict rules with regard to face covering, nose covering, social distancing and grouping and take the violators for pcr testing rather than make all the people suffer by the travel restrictions.....Doctors and health workers should not and can not dictate terms to the entire nation....More people die of road accidents; do you want to stop all vehicles plying on the road?....Have some sense Dr.Padma

We need to learn to follow safety measures and conduct day to day business. It is easy for these medical associations to put comments..seriously how many are there? Truth is both the general public and Govermemt cannot afford any more lockdowns.

If the lockdown is extended many poor people will go helpless. I am a small business owner with 15 staff (most of them married), However struggling to pay their salaries. My business cannot afford an extended lockdown. To Rub salt to injury former staff, former domestic servants, even some relatives are reaching out for help. But I am helpless. But, doing the best we can. The ground situation is many people are willing to risk the covid to earn a living so if the majority is against the restrictions can we expect them to follow it. Professionals will earn a salary no matter where they work or not work at all. Others don't have that privilege neither nonemployment benefits nor stimulus cheques like the west. So there are two sides both bear great risks and sacrifices. Follow the Health Profenals Advise and extend or re-open.
