Deepest sympathies. Mother Lanka will miss you Sir. May you attain the Supreme Bliss of Nirwana!

A distinguished personality from Trinity College Kandy. He was awarded the Ryde Gold Medal in 1956, for his all round performance as a student while studying at Trinity College. A career diplomat represented Srilanka in many countries and the United Nations. It's very sad news for all Srilankans who respect honesty and integrity. He commanded the respect of all locally and internationally. He was a person of some class and not a politician.

I had the chance to know about this gentleman to a good extent when I was working with Permanent Secretary/Public Administration. So its my opinion was not made use of. Perhaps due to lack of identifying quality of a gentleman.

Great statesman and appreciate for admitting to a government hospital

    Chris Saturday, 27 May 2023 08:10 PM

Sad we will never have people of his calibre again. He was in a league of his own. Rest in peace.

One of the greatest human beings born in Sri lanka i got to talk to him when he was the Ambassador at UN office in New York. Very efficient , extremely talented human being. RIP Sir!!!

One of the great sons of Sri Lanka. He was very popular among international diplomats due to one and only reason he never went with the wind-he certified as a UN leader there was no truth in ‘ America’s allegation Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.Of course Sri Lanka failed to make use of his expertise.

He was a career diplomat par excellent with no malice against anyone. A well educated and polite personality respected by all at the international level. It is indeed very sad to know that he has left us all. May his soul rest in peace and attain Nirvanna.

One good reason out of a few that made me proud to be a Sri Lankan. RIP Mr. Dhanapala you served your country with the highest respect and quality more so than any politician or a diplomat did until the end of their lives.

To the family of Jayantha. Our deepest condolence. Met Jayantha in London and later in DC introduced by cousin/friend M Fuard. -Zack cader

He is certainly was an educated person to represent our country in USA. Unlike the appointment of a cousin of a political leader. Did he say anything on how to solve the ethnic conflict/issues/problems???

Seetha Jayaweera Sunday, 28 May 2023 07:30 AM

I miss you dearly my cousin brother. There is no words describe you. Thank you for the days in London in 1968. You gave opportunity to visit Buckingham palace party. Thank you. May you rest in peace.

Keerthi Ratnayake Sunday, 28 May 2023 07:55 AM

RIP sir. Your service to the country will not be forgotten.

    Spartacus Sunday, 28 May 2023 08:33 AM

Pure piece of typical learned rubbish. Never did anything useful to the country consciencewise and denied every criminality of the State never correcting. Typical similar fellows of this nature are GLPieris, Kohona etc.

    Roger Sunday, 28 May 2023 09:36 AM

One of the smartest and greatest diplomats that SL ever had. An Internationally renowned intellect who made SL proud yet so unassuming and humble personality. May you rest in peace.

    Adwani Sunday, 28 May 2023 03:30 PM

But let's not forget he was also part of the conspiracy to attack Iraq on false allegations of chemical weapons.

    Lion Sunday, 28 May 2023 04:38 PM

While corrupt politicians who have destroyed this country live longer giving us more and more burden , the good people are taken away by the nature.

    Aquarius Sunday, 28 May 2023 05:02 PM

My deepest condolences the family. One of the best career diplomats SL ever produced - respected globally. If we had people of his calibre running our country, we would never get to where we are today. RIP Mr. Jayantha Dhanapala, you will be missed but remembered with pride.

    Rty Sunday, 28 May 2023 05:07 PM

Lived all over but came home at the end. All working abroad feel this longing.

Mohideen Marikar Monday, 29 May 2023 06:44 AM

JCB Dhanapala’s name appeared on so many prize winner boards at the Trinity College Kandy Assembly Hall. I recall him winning the Ryde Gold Medal in 1956 when I was in the Kindergarten, also at Trinity. Along with Sarath Amunugama and Ahmed Marikar these 3 were Prefects (School Officers) during the time of Mr Walter being Principal. Deepest Sympathies to the Elhart family on the loss of their Son-in-Law. Ahmed Marikar’s brother Mohideen.
