Tight measures will be taken in due course if the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country goes out of control, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said.

Addressing a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau, he said that the decision to impose travel restrictions or lockdown would be decided by the government accordingly.

“The health authorities have been taking relevant steps after reviewing the situation time to time,” he said.

“We are currently on the move of facing the COVID-19 situation while maintaining a balance with economic and social aspects,” Dr Herath pointed out.

However, he stressed if the authorities felt that the restrictions should be tightened or the country should go for lockdown, appropriate measures will be taken with no hesitation.

Dr Herath also reiterated the importance of strictly following health guidelines and practices until further notice. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

CHOLMONDELEY PINTO Wednesday, 04 August 2021 05:53 PM

It is either Chinese vaccine or no vaccine. Over 11 million Chinese vaccines received against only around 3.5 million all others combined. Do we wait for the scraps to fall off westerners table?

    Hmm Wednesday, 04 August 2021 06:16 PM

You mean putting the tri forces with machine guns shooting the virus? Should have got the vaccinations going months ago.

    Petrfied Wednesday, 04 August 2021 06:26 PM

Isn’t it now out of control. When will the retard in charge of the country realize his limitations and let the Health Authorities take the advice of the Health Authorities and lockdown the country.
