The responsible authorities of the railway department have not submitted reports yet for the recent train derailments near Maradana station, Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) President Sumedha Somaratne said.

While speaking to the Daily Mirror he said that there were three derailments near the Maradana station, one on yesterday and the other two trains were derailed on Tuesday, he said.

"The Maradana-Panadura, Kandy-Matara trains were derailed at Maradana yesterday, and the Fort-KKS train was derailed at the same spot today," he said.

Derailments are though rare, but common. After derailments, the trains should be made to get back on track after necessary repairs that include the damaged track. Subsequently a report on the derailment should be submitted, mentioning the cause.

However, in the recent derailments, the trains were back on track, but no reports explaining the derailments were submitted as yet, he said expressing disappointment. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

When the ministry is under an old duck what can you expect? The sad part is none of these jokers are willing to step down even though they are hilariously incompetent to run the ministries they have taken on.

This is due to poor track maintenance as Sri Lanka railway dose not seem to have funds. Shut down the railway service before fatal disaster may occur until the economy is back on track with a change in system and government.

The only reason there has been no disaster yet is because our trains are very slow compared to international standards. But shutdown is not practical given the number of people depending on it.

People were complaining about train derailments in the northern railways where the tracks were laid by the Indians . Indian railway technology was being ridiculed in Sri Lanka. Then suddenly we are having unusually frequent train derailments in areas where Indians didn’t lay the tracks. CID must investigate.

We have the best staff on the world working for SLGR. Like some say, the minister is a lame duck! But the minister does not maintain the track. Why on earth do we have an overstaffed SLGR when they can't even maintain a well laid track?

Aiyo, my putha Sisira is a bit demented, only chuttak ok. With a limited vocabulary his most used words are ‘no toilet India, psyco, DSB Jeyarajh’ (poww aney, this person jilted my boy, you know. Broke his heart. I told Sisira to create a Tinder profile and find new love. But it’s hard no, when you are demented? Hmm…what to do). We took the $3.8Bn grant, food, fertilizer and fuel from India and Sisira looked after me! And then I tell him to show some gratitude, and see what he does. Aney I love my boy, but ‘what for the telling’ he is a bit demented. (Coo Mawatha; Hikkaduwa, Agnostic)
