A Sub Inspector, two Police Sergeants and a Police Constable attached to the Welikada Police have been interdicted while another Police Constable and two Women Police Constables have been transferred over the death of a 42-year-old woman, a domestic worker at popular tele drama producer and business personality Sudharma Nethicumara's house, who was taken into custody over an alleged theft.
The domestic worker was taken into custody on May 11 following a complaint by Sudharma Nethicumara that a gold ring had been stolen by her from his residence.
However, the female helper, a resident of Badulla, was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo from police custody after she had complained of breathing difficulties.
Police said the woman had died the following day while undergoing treatment.
However, the IGP ordered the Police Special Investigation Unit to conduct an investigation into the incident due to suspicions raised by her relatives and other parties.
Accordingly, the officers were interdicted and transferred after investigations revealed that the officers had committed acts of indiscipline in the Police Disciplinary Code.
Also, the IGP has recommended the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security to transfer the OIC of the Welikada Police.
The Police Special Investigation Unit is conducting further investigations regarding the indisciplined actions committed by the police officers, and the IGP has assigned the Criminal Investigation Department to carry out further investigations regarding the crime.(DSB)

They need to be tried for murder, not transferred, they beat that woman to death, or her employer did, just because he's an actor doesn't make him nor police to get away with murder, she probably stole to feed her starving family, death penalty for such a small thing?

We want special justice when one of our women folk overstayer dies in custody in Japan or killed by their employer in the Middle East or Singapore. But seem to be tolerant when most patriotic police are killing our own women folk.

This is where system change is needed, I mean not the police but the mentality of people behaving like slaves at the whims of rich and powerful. If police acted impartially a precious life would not have been lost.

Just transfer to another station is not enough, would encourage to repeat same incidences. Murderers should bring into the Court, because using official power to murder poor innocents.

A BEAST in an OIC clothes attached to Welikada (Rajagiriya) during the lockdown behaved like a dictator and harrassed each and everyone went for an assistance. I don't the same thug involved in her murder!!!!!!
